Concept Explanation

Area of Rectangle

A  rectangle is a four sided figure with pair of opposite parallel to each other and each angle is right angle. The adjacent sides are not equal. and are considered as length and breadth.

Area of Rectangle = Length X Breadth

Illustration: Find the area of a rectangle having length 5 cm and breadth 4 cm.

Solution: Length = 5cm   and   Breadth = 4 cm

Area  = Length X breadth  = 5 X 4 = 20 sq cm.

Illustration: Given that the area of rectangle is 75 sq cm. if one side is 5 cm find the other side.

Solution:  One side of the rectangle = 5cm. Let the other side of the rectangle = y cm

Area of rectangle = Length X breadth   = 5 X y sq cm

According to the question:  Area of rectangle = 75 sq cm     OR   5 X y = 75 sq cm

 large y= frac{75}{5}= 15; cm

Hence the other side = 15 cm

Illustration: Find the area of a rectangle having length 4. 5 cm and breadth 3.5 cm.

Solution: Length = 4.5cm   and   Breadth = 3.5 cm

Area  = Length X breadth  = 4.5 X 3.5 = 15.75  sq cm

Illustration: Find the area of a rectangle having length3.9 cm and breadth 13 cm.

Solution: Length =3.9cm   and   Breadth = 13 cm

Area  = Length X breadth  = 3.9 X 13 =  50.7sq cm
